Last week, Leila showed Iona how to make penguins out of olives and carrots.  They shared them at the end of the college day in the afternoon Community Meeting.  Yum!

Hi!  My name is Paloma and I'm a new member of staff here at the SMLC.  It's been great getting to know all the staff and students this week and I'm really looking forward to working with everyone.

Arts award - Rupert

For my arts award I will be improving the look in a level on my game by making the background a lot more detailed and creating a better atmosphere.

The level is set in an sewer/underground water pipe works, at the moment it looks quite surreal and is made up of only pipes and a few torches for the light, the lights don’t work properly and only flicker with no light, what I want to do is change them so that they create a moving glow around them to make the illusion of light.

Also to make the torches stand out more I’m going to make the background a darker colour made of stone bricks like a real sewer and also replace the pipes with bricks to stand on.

I am also going to add huge pipes to keep things interesting and also the main character you play as looks kind of dull so I’m looking to improve that too.

I think that it needs to look nice because it one of the things that people first see and can get people interested in it, it can also make it more fun to play when it makes a more imaginative setting.

I think that making the background is going to be difficult because it needs to contrast the foreground and not get in the way of the game.

I think that I will enjoy creating the lights and different pipes and scenery because it is a little bit more creative and the idea was based on a dream I had.
